Lisa Powers, President/Owner of Career Options has just received some exciting news! She nominated Viseth Moua for WI SHRM Diversity Advocate Award and it was just announced that Viseth was awarded this great honor! Please see below for a media release and be sure to congratulate Viseth for his years of dedication to the community!

Sue Wiberg

VP of Diversity

I’m excited to share the good news that Viseth Moua has been selected as the WI SHRM Diversity Advocate for 2007.  This award is conferred by the WI State Council for SHRM to recognize an individual who has been a role model in their local community as a strong advocate for diversity in human resources.  Congratulations to Viseth!

Thank you to Lisa Powers from Career Options who nominated Viseth.  Here are a few of the comments that she shared about Viseth and his contributions:
“Viseth Moua is a very hardworking, professional and friendly person who is devoted to diversity.  I have known him professionally for a few years and am constantly amazed at his knowledge, desire and passion for the HR field.  He has been involved in the local community in the following ways:
·        He was hired in 1997 as the first Hmong Production Supervisor for one of the largest employers of Hmong in the Fox Valley.  He provided a voice for a large number of Hmong employees who lacked strong communication skills.
       ·     He was the first Hmong HR Manager in the Fox Valley who not only advocated, but more importantly represented, a big part of diversity.
·    He not only strives to do his best but also strives to see others achieve success.  Viseth has a kind heart and has strong ethical/moral values that make him very respected by management and all levels of personnel.  People enjoy talking with him and getting to know him.  He is an inspiration to anyone in and outside of the HR field by the following ways:
·        He is currently serving as a role model for Hmong students and diversity candidates questioning a successful career in Human Resources.
For these reasons and many more, Viseth Moua is an excellent candidate for the WI-SHRM Chapter Diversity Advocate.”
Lisa, we couldn’t agree with you more!

At the State Conference meeting in October, FVSHRM’s President, Lisa Wellhoefer, shared these acceptance comments on Viseth’s behalf:

“I would like to thank WI SHRM and its Diversity Awards Committee for the award.  This award is accepted and shared with all of the fine HR professionals of the Fox Valley SHRM chapter, as well as the state of Wisconsin, who continue to value, promote, and embrace diversity through the Human Resources profession.
It is my hope that the Diversity Advocate Award will continue to inspire the men and women who choose to be at the forefront of human relations, whether in Human Resources or a leadership role.  As our workforce continues to be much more diversified, let us not only create policies to address diversity, but rather live the spirit.
Again, thank you for the nomination and award. "
Our chapter plans to recognize Viseth for this achievement with a local ceremony at our November chapter meeting. A new aspect to the award this year is a $500.00 donation to a charity or non-profit diversity program of the winner’s choice.  Viseth has designated United Way of the Fox Cities and will present the check to their representative at that meeting.

I am pleased to note that this is the second year in a row that the WI SHRM Diversity Advocate award was received by a professional from the Fox Valley.  (Kathi Seifert was the recipient for 2006).  Congratulations again, Viseth and thank you for all that you do!  We appreciate your efforts in making a positive impact within our state, in our community and with the employees you serve!

April 4, 2007- Lisa Powers Becomes Owner of Career Options!

The date April 4th has significant importance for both Pam Baumann and Lisa Powers.

Not only was Lisa born on this date, but Pam started her first business, Career Options 20 years ago, on April 4th, 1987.On the exact date of this year, Pam passed over the reigns to her daughter, Lisa, who now proudly serves as the Owner at age 37.

After leaving the education field, Lisa joined Career Options in 1997 starting as a receptionist.  In the past 10 years, she has been promoted to Manager and Vice President.  For the past several years, she has served as President and has been actively involved in all strategic planning.

Many wonder if this means Pam will be retiring.  The answer is certainly not!  Pam is as busy as ever running 3 locations of PAMCO Executive Office Suites!  Pam is the owner of PAMCO and Lisa will remain as Vice President of PAMCO.

Gary Baumann (Pam’s husband) has a full time position at the Neenah Foundry but he also is the Maintenance Manager of all PAMCO locations, with their son, Eric, who frequently helps out as well. (Eric works FT at Atlas Tag and Label.)  Their oldest son, Curt, works in the Medical Field and lives in West Bend.

Pam and Lisa are blessed to have a wonderful staff who assist in day to day operations.  They will continue to collaborate as they focus on growing their companies in the future and expanding their services to meet their clients’ needs.  They are truly passionate about what they do and are active in their community involvement!

Switch to a marketing career suits her well

Kaukauna woman thrilled to build team at NEP

By Pete Bach
Post-Crescent staff writer

Q: What do like most about your position at NEP (Northeast Photocopy)?

A: The position is in the heart of all action. It's probably the most stimulating position I've ever had. It's the interaction as well as the integrity and trust among the employees.

Q: What work did you perform at Ford Motor Credit?

A: I was the sales coordinator.

Q: Did the closure of the local Ford Motor Credit office come as a shock?

A: No. We foresaw it coming. The first 12 years of service there I would have been the first to say I was 110 percent sure we would never go under. The job security was unbelievable. However, as times changed and as corporate changes were being made, we could foresee it. It was evident the Appleton branch would announce its closing.

Q: How many were employed there at the peak?

A: Right around 35. But we went through two downsizes. In the first we went from 35 to about 12. And it was 12 or 11 with the second downsizing going to Milwaukee.

Q: How did you learn of the opening at NEP?

A: I was on the stretch of looking for jobs every day and happened to look at Career Options, which is a temporary agency, and applied there. I look at people at Career Options and the people that helped me there as my guardian angels. You have to find the right job and the right fit. I look back to it and I feel it was a magical experience.

Q: What advice would you have for other job changers who might be experiencing the same need in the year ahead?

A: Tell people to never give up. And don't let anyone short change you. There's a place for everyone to succeed. But remember success doesn't come to you. You have to go out and get it. It's a hard working process.

To put it bluntly, I just prayed and prayed and prayed. And it also helped me to better understand my career path. When my severance ran out I was really on the prowl to get a new position and it does take a lot of time. I'm very fortunate to be here.

Q: What's expected of you in this position?

A: What I hope to accomplish is a marketing strategy that co- exists with the sales people. Even though we're two different teams or job descriptions, it's necessary that we work together to promote our product. When I was with Ford and we were in our glory days, there's nothing better in life than to work for a company that's thriving. And NEP right now is thriving. And to contribute to that — to have your hands in the dirt and seeing that being built — is an awesome experience.

"Mother-Daughter Team Expands Service"

By Judy Waggoner
FOR FOX VALLEY INC.

Who: Lisa Powers has worked in the staffing industry since after leaving a teaching career to join Career Options, her mother's Appleton firm, in 1997.

Now Powers and her mother, Pam Baumann, are expanding two of the family's businesses, Pamco Suites, a property administrative management company, and Career Options.

What: Pamco opened its first building on Nicolet Road to tenants in 1991 and soon after added a second building on Spencer Street.

Baumann offers tenants full-time receptionist and administrative support, high-speed Internet access, office equipment, conference rooms and accounting services.

Baumann's goal is to allow entrepreneurs to focus on growing their businesses while letting Pamco run the office space.

This "tenant community" concept lets diversified businesses network in close proximity and has resulted in full occupancy in Pamco's first two buildings.

A third, 8352-square-foot office building at 2800 E. Enterprise Ave. in northeast Appleton has 20 office suites that range in size from 600 to 800 square feet.

"We also have enough land to build another building alongside, and that is our next goal after the third location is full," said Powers, who is vice president of Pamco Suites.

Started in 1987 by Baumann, Career Options places candidates in office, professional, skilled and industrial positions.

"We have had a great deal of success in placing direct hire candidates in the $40,000 to $60,000 range," said Powers, president of Career Options.

A recently formed Recruiting Division will have a different fee structure and target midlevel and senior-level candidates in sales, marketing, human resources and financial markets.

"Our clients suggested that we expand our services to higher level positions and we decided to listen to their needs," Powers said.

Powers Earns Top Manager Honor
MaryBeth Matzek, Post-Crescent business editor

Lisa Powers is quick to share the spotlight.

The president of Career Options received the Women in Management's Woman of the Year Award Wednesday evening and was eager to praise her employees and family for their help in making her and the Grand Chute staffing firm a success.

"I have such great teammates. They have made my life much easier," Powers said. "I would be lost without them."

Powers' family also plays a key role in her success, the Appleton woman said. She signaled out her mother, Pam Baumann, for being her "biggest supporter."

"She has been a phenomenal mentor for me," Powers said.

"My dad also is a big help taking care of all the landscaping and maintenance needs for the business -- in addition to his full-time job."

"WIM gives its Woman of the Year Award annually to a Fox Cities female manager who has made exemplary contributions to her company, employees and community," said WIM member Lisa Van Beek. "Not only is Powers active in WIM and other local business groups, she has also helped Career Options to grow," she said.

Powers has been a member of WIM for the past eight years and has been active in the organization, including a stint as chapter president.
