This is a temp to hire position in the Fox Valley for a medical office that has wonderful benefits and work environment! (This position is great for Medical Assistants/Certified Medical Assistants, LPN, or someone who has worked with insurance in a medical setting!) The Patient Care Coordinator is accountable for coordinating any diagnostic, surgical and follow up care for patients being treated by the physicians or providers within the clinic. This position coordinates care by following guidelines established by each patient's insurance carrier so maximum reimbursement is received. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Acquires and maintains knowledge of HIPAA privacy requirements as it relates to the job duties.

Schedules ancillary tests, treatment, surgical procedures, and associated preoperative evaluation.  Coordinators screen each order for accuracy and completeness prior to scheduling.

Screens patients for diagnostic tests/surgeries by verifying medications, height, weight, contraindications for particular tests, and if prior films/CD's exist.

Obtains precertification/preauthorization from the patient's insurance carrier for procedures, and counsels the patient on their obligations to follow insurance guidelines for maximum benefit.

Calls for additional referrals for patients being added onto schedule during day for other providers if applicable.

Collects necessary co pays for patients being added onto schedule for physical therapy or injections after seeing a physician.

Coordinates additional paperwork such as labels, route slips, and worksheets for patients added onto current day's schedule.

Escorts patients to other departments as necessary for x-rays, injections or physical therapy.

Documents pertinent scheduling information in the patient's medical record, computer account and diagnostics schedule to maintain timely and accurate continuity of patient care.

Schedules follow up visits in conjunction with ancillary testing.

Initiates preparation of surgical orders and surgical film/CD tracking.  Appropriate clinical staff or surgical technicians are notified of surgery details. Confirm upcoming surgery schedules, and release unused surgical block times when appropriate.

Coordinates availability of previous films/CD's for patients being scheduled for new diagnostic work through use of diagnostics schedule and communication between appropriate departments within the clinic.

Schedule ancillary tests from MD's in orders area on Intranet.

Prepares and delivers surgical orders and packets as per physician requirements.  Prepares surgical billing sheets and charts for surgeons.

Responds to inquiries from patients, insurance carriers, hospital personnel, and other physicians regarding scheduled procedures and surgeries.  Maintains good communication with the patient, physician, other departments, test facilities and payors.

Travels to Oshkosh satellite clinics occasionally to support physicians working there, including all duties above, as well as some reception duties such as checking in patients, collecting

co pays, registering accounts or any other duties as requested while at the satellite clinic.  (Company does pay for mileage reimbursement!)  This could be up to 1-2 times each week to help cover for vacation or illness.

Provides back up support for other departments as needed.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE -Medical terminology and experience in clinic or hospital setting necessary.  They would also consider Medical Assistants and/or CNA's for this role.  Scheduling experience is preferred but not required as long as person has some medical background/experience.  Previous experience in preauthorization/precertification and processing of health insurance claims is required.  Previous experience with CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding helpful but not required.  Basic computer knowledge and key boarding skills required.  Excellent customer service skills are necessary in coordinating patient care.   The coordinator must be highly professional and caring in dealing with patients.  Adherence to the HIPAA privacy requirements in the performance of his or her duties as an essential function of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  This position requires frequent position changes including bending, stooping, and stretching and extensive work on a computer and telephone.  It may involve lifting supplies and x-rays up to 30 to 40 pounds.  The coordinator may occasionally need to assist with wheelchair patients.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Pay:

Pay:  $11.00 -$14.00(possibly higher for the right candidate)
